The Ionia Girls Junior Varsity split their double header with Greenville on Thursday, May 11th. The girls were able to defeat Greenville the first game 16-1 within 3 innings and the second they struggled defensively as they gave up 19 runs to lose the game 8-19. The first game provided the girls a confidence boost in their efforts offensively as the following players hit well. Kaylee Schmid and Corina Hall went 1-1 with 2 walks, and Ava Bucholtz and Jadine Bigger went 2-2 each with 1 walk. Liberty Stanard pitched for the Bulldogs with the first three outs of the games being strike outs! The second game proved more difficult for Ionia as they struggled with fielding errors and did not have as many players that batted well. Still many players had great at bats. Gabbi Meyers went 3-4, Kaylee Schmid went 2-2 with a walk, and Ava Bucholtz went 2-3 with a walk. Liberty Stanard also pitched this game with 5 strike outs. Ionia will continue their season next Tuesday, May 16th at Charlotte!
