PORTLAND HIGH SCHOOL: 6
The Ionia JV Girls Softball Team had two tough losses on Thursday, May 4th to Portland at home. These losses were both close games as they lost the first 4-6 and the second fought their way back from a 10-0 deficit to lose 8-11. The first game the Bulldogs had some key players step up to score some runs as Jazmin Cooper went 2-3, Kaylee Schmid went 2-2, and Mariah Stoakes went 1-1. The second game proved to be tougher on the defensive side as they gave up ten runs in the first, but rallied together to come back. Ionia, after the first inning, had a few back to back innings where they were able to stop them with no hits. Gabbi Meyers went 2-3, Ava Bucholz went 2-2, and Kaylee Schmid went 2-2. The JV girls have learned many valuable lessons in this game and hope to let these losses go, focus, and improve for their game tomorrow, May 5th at Eaton Rapids!
