As JV played their fifth game of the season against St. Johns, we didn't turn out the score we had hoped for. We were struggling to acclimate to a fast-paced game and while we were still making adjustments, the Redwings took advantage and scored two goals early in the first half. As the game progressed, JV managed to keep St. Johns at bay denying many goal-scoring opportunities. Our goalkeeper, Luis Lopez, showed he was up to the task again with some quick reaction saves. The boys in our defensive line did a great job attempting to control the ball and play it out to the wings. Gio Mata and Trevor Castillo, as part of our defensive lineup, had exceptional tackles to win the ball back and move it up the field.  We had a few opportunities to get some shots on goal from our striker, Caiden Sayers, but the Redwing defense quickly dissolved our offensive plays. The first half ended at a 2-0, however, late in the second half, there was an unfortunate handball in the 18-yard box which resulted in a penalty kick against Ionia. Our goalkeeper managed to get a hand on the ball, but it still found its way into the back of the net. St. Johns scored their final goal near the end of the game. We did our best and it was an exciting match to watch. As always, a good opportunity to see where we can continue to improve.
