Ionia JV soccer traveled to Hastings on a cold Saturday morning to play the Saxons. Right from the start you could see it was going to be a physical match as both teams were fighting for every 50/50 ball. In the first half Ionia had some good combinations especially on the left side of the field between Drew Paton and Hudson Kemp to keep the ball moving and get some shots on goal. Scotti Kimber was wall on the defensive side constantly sprinting back and forth across the field stifling Hastings players. Alex Barr was our keeper for the first half and 2 saves with no goals allowed. The second half was much like the first in both teams going back and forth with possession and attacks. Our defensive unit of Carl Goeckel, Jaiden Bennett, and Jay Ledesma had to be constantly on their toes and were well up to the challenge. Hasting was able to score around the 20 minute mark of the second half putting the Bulldogs down 1-0. Today was a great test of character though as the Bulldogs didn’t quit until the very last second. In the final 20 seconds of the match Hudson and Derrick Santana were in a scrum on the goaline of Hastings goal. Unfortunately they were unable to punch it in and even the game at a score a piece. 

The Ionia JV soccer team is now 1-3-1 on the season and will next play @Home vs Folwerville on Monday October 10th @5:30.
