Ionia JV Baseball played in a doubleheader today against their county rivals the Lakewood Vikings. Ionia was able to win the first game 7-4 and ended up losing the night cap 1-11. 

Mason Braman started on the mound for the Bulldogs and got the win. The sophomore pitched a complete game lasting 6 innings giving up 5 hits, 4 runs (1 earned) while striking out 9 and walking 1. 

Offensively the Bulldogs were led by Ethan Wenzel and Bryce Hoppes who each collected 2 hits. Mason Braman and Hoppes each had a double in the game, while Wenzel and Sprank collected 2 RBI’s a piece. The Bulldogs collected 9 walks in the game. 

Dawson Leland stepped on the bump to lead the Bulldogs in the second game. He was able to last 4 innings, giving up 7 hits and 10 runs (6 earned), while striking out 3 and walking 2. Teddy Sprank pitched in relief for 1 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. Caden Sayers closed out the game going 2 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 2. 

Hits were hard to come by in the second game as Ionia was only able to secure 3 of them in the entire game. Wenzel, Gregory, and Braman each had 1 single. 

Ionia is now 9-14-1 on the season and will end the season against Portland St Pats. Ionia will travel to Portland to play the shamrock tomorrow Wednesday May 22nd @4:30 in two 5 inning games.
