Ionia JV Baseball yet again splits a double header vs tonight’s opponent the Durand Railroaders. Ionia won the first game 18-3 and then lost the second game 7-10. 

Dawson Leland got the nod on the mound in the first game. Leland was able to pitch all 4 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. 

The Bulldogs collected 11 hits in this game and leading the team with 2 hits each were Ethan Wenzel, Caiden Sayers, and Teddy Sprank. Wenzel secured a team leading 3 RBI’s as well. Braman, Ralston, and Sprank each collected 2 RBI’s in the game as well. Ionia had a total of 13 stolen bases in the first game with Caiden Sayers leading the team with 4. 

In the second game Roel Lopez started on the mound. The righty lasted 2 innings and while giving up 3 hits and 5 runs (0 earned) while striking out 3 and walking 1. Dawson Leland pitched in relief lasting 2 innings giving up 5 runs (0 earned) on 1 hit while striking out 3 and walking 1. Mason Braman closed the game out, throwing 1 inning and striking out the side to allow 0 runs. 

Offensively the Bulldogs had a strong comeback late in the game, but fell just short only securing 7 of the 10 runs they needed to extend the game. Ionia had 7 total hits in the game with multiple players collecting 1 hit each. 

Ionia JV Baseball is now 8-12-1 on the season and will look to get back on track vs the Lakewood Vikings next Tuesday May 21st @home @4pm.
