Ionia JV baseball faced off against their conference opponents the Charlotte Orioles. Both games were close with Ionia losing the first game 6-8 and then winning the second game 4-1

Roel Lopez was on the mound for the Bulldogs in the first game. Lopez went 5 and 1/3rd innings surrendering 6 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. 

Teddy Sprank and Roel Lopez led the team with 2 RBI’s a piece. Carter Ralston led the team in hits with 2, while Sayers and Lopez each collected 1. Ionia had 7 stolen bases in the game with Riley Yokom and Carter Ralston each having 2 to lead the team. 

In the second game Ethan Wenzel got the nod to start the game on the mound. The righty gave up 2 hits and 1 run (0 earned) over 4 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 3. Dawson Leland pitched in relief allowing 0 runs over 3 innings. 

Offensively the Bulldogs were led by Ralston and Leland at the plate with each collecting 2 hits on the day. Ralston had a triple early in the game scoring Leland that started the scoring for Ionia. Jude Gregory led Ionia with 2 RBI’s in this one going 1-3 at the plate. 

Ionia is now 5-8-1 on the season and will next travel to Mason on Thursday May 2nd to play the Mason Bulldogs @4pm.
