Ionia JV Baseball hosted their annual invite this weekend. Teams in attendance were Lakewood, Central Montcalm, Saranac, and Ionia. Lakewood vs Central Montcalm and Ionia vs Saranac is how Saturday morning started. 

Mason Braman was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs vs Saranac. The righty pitched a complete game lasting 6 innings, surrendering 5 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 3. 

Offensively the Bulldogs were able to amass 10 hits in this game with Ethan Wenzel leading the way going 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 singles, a double, and 2 RBIs. Carter Ralston and Caiden Sayers also contributed 2 RBI’s a piece helping the Bulldogs reached their total of 15 runs in the game. Ionia ended up beating Saranac 15-5 in the 6th inning. 

In the championship game it was Ionia vs Lakewood. Carter Ralston started on the mound giving up 7 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3. Carter was only able to last 2/3rds of an inning today while Teddy Sprank pitched in relief. The lefty ended up pitching 3 and 1/3rd innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. 

Ionia’s bat’s cooled off in this one as they were only able to collect 2 hits in the game. Ralston and Wenzel each had 1 hit apiece. Ionia ended up taking 2nd place at the invite losing to Lakewood 10-0. 

Ionia JV Baseball is now 2-6 on the season and will next look to play @ Olivet on April 23rd @4pm.
