The Ionia Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated Belding by a score of 3-1 in the season opener on Monday night. 

Down 1-0 at halftime, we made some strategic adjustments, reorganized, and came out strong in the second half. Addy Roundtree put a shot on goal 2 minutes into the second half and Ionia never let up for the rest of the way in a well rounded win where lots of people contributed. 

Kylie Leonard would score back to back goals halfway through the half to take the lead. Natalia Magallon would also score a goal in her first ever varsity game 2 minutes later on a nice shot from outside the 18 yard line, on an assist from Tessa Masengale. 

Kaylynn Doty would pick up the win in goal in her first ever varsity game, recording 6 saves and Katie Leonard was the leader on the defensive end. 

Ionia will take on Hastings Wednesday night in Ionia with a 5:30 jv kickoff and a 7:00 varsity start time.
