The Ionia Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated their rival Lakewood by a score of 5-4 on Friday night.

Early in the year we had a matchup with Lakewood and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. It’s not often that you get a second chance to take on your rival school in a winner take all match, but both teams agreed to play at the last minute. It was a great opportunity to see how both teams have improved throughout the season. We have preached improvement every single day and tonight we competed hard and played together and the results paid off. 

Kara Kramer-Lake played her best game of the season tonight recording two goals and two assists. Kara was patient and chose her spots well tonight to lead us to victory. Martina Sierra Clemares scored another goal, her second in the past two games, while also recording an assist. Avery Haney continued her successful season by scoring a goal of her own, while Rylie Dinehart scored, making it her 4th goal in 3 games. Mimose Sandborn played the entire game and recorded her first varsity assist for the first goal of the game on an incredible through ball.

Ionia will take on Lansing Eastern Monday at home for their senior night game. Kickoff is at 6, senior night recognitions and celebrations will start before the game.
