Congratulations to Morgan Canfield and Dylan Wohlscheid who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for March. The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics. Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.
Morgan is the daughter of Tonya Jarrett and Jamie Canfield and she has participated in basketball (4 years) and track for 3 years. She plans to attend Grand Valley State University and pursue a degree in engineering. Morgan was nominated by girls basketball coach Scott Pischea who had this to say about her:
“Morgan is an outstanding student and an outstanding athlete. Morgan had a tremendous season earning honorable mention all league recognition. Her enthusiasm and love for basketball were contagious. As a coach it was a joy to have somebody who enjoyed their sport as much as Morgan did. It was an honor to coach such a wonderful student/athlete and outstanding representative of Ionia athletics.”
Dylan’s guardians are SFC Frand and Tracy Blair and he has participated in soccer (4years), track and field (2 years), and powerlifting (2 years). He plans to attend Ferris State University and pursue a degree in crimnial justice. Dylan was nominated by powerlifting coach Dave Pirce who had this to say about him:
“Dylan took a real leadership role this year without anyone asking or prompting. He not only worked hard every day to improve himself in the sport, but he was always helping his teammates to improve themselves. Willingly giving advice and tips for others to improve. Dylan displayed kindness and good sportsmanship throughout his high school career, setting a good example for his teammates and underclassmen.”
Both Morgan and Dylan are not only successful in athletics but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes. Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank male and female student-athletes of the month for March.
