The Ionia boys varsity tennis team completed it's 2024 season with a strong showing in the Mason hosted regional.  

Christian Miller won his first match at first singles 6-1,6-1 before losing to the number one seed 6-0,6-1.  Harper Duell won his first match 6-0,6-2 before losing to the number three seed 6-0,6-2. Cole Petersen lost at three singles 6-1,6-2.  At four singles Jake Whitney, who was the four seed, had a bye the first round, won his second round match 6-3,6-0, and then lost to the first seed in the match of the day, 4-6,6-1,3-6.

In doubles, first doubles Jaxon Palmer and Ryan Lee lost 6-1,6-0. Second doubles won 6-1,6-4 then lost 6-0,6-1. Third doubles Mason Clark and Myles Perrien lost 6-1,6-1 and fourth doubles won their first match 6-1,6-1 before losing the second match 6-4,7-5.

The Bulldogs had a tremendous season and the performance in the Regional was a positive ending.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team completed it's 2024 season with a strong showing in the Mason hosted regional.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team completed their regular season with a dominating win over Comstock Park on senior night Monday 8-0.  This is the last meet before the Bulldogs compete in the Regionals at Mason High School on Wednesday.

First singles Christian Miller won 6-3,6-1. Second singles Cole Petersen won 4-6,6-1,7-6. Third singles Harper Duell won 6-2,7-5 and fourth singles Jake Whitney won 6-0,6-3.  

In doubles the first doubles team of Ryan Lee and Jaxon Palmer won 6-1,7-5. Second doubles won 6-1, 1-2 in a match where Comstock Park forfeited.  Third doubles and league champs Mason Clark and Myles Perrien won 6-0,6-1 and fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr won 6-1,6-1.

Before the match the Bulldogs were able to celebrate the five seniors, Christian Miller, Ryan Lee, Jaxon Palmer, Myles Perrien and Nolan Lundstrom.  These seniors have been an outstanding group for the Bulldogs the last few years and the tennis program will certainly miss them and all they have contributed to the program.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team had a great day at the league meet on Thursday finishing third overall.  Every team and/or player for the bulldogs won their first match and ended up either playing for the championship or at least third or fourth place.

First singles Christian Miller finished third for the Bulldogs beating Eaton Rapids 6-4,6-3. Losing to Lansing Catholic 6-0,6-0, before beating Lakewood in the 3rd/4th place match 6-3,6-3.  Second singles Cole Petersen finished fourth beating Lakewood 7-5,6-1, losing to Portland 6-1,6-3 and losing the 3rd/4th place match to Eaton Rapids 6-3, 4-6,2-6.  Third singles Harper Duell finished third by beating Charlotte 6-1,6-0, losing to Portland 6-1,6-1, then beating Lakewood in the 3rd/4th place match 5-7,7-5,7-6.  Fourth singles Jake Whitney had a bye the first round, beat Eaton Rapids 6-1,6-1, before falling to Lansing Catholic 6-2,6-4 in the championship and finishing second.  

First doubles Ryan Lee and Jaxon Palmer took fourth, beating Charlotte 6-1,6-2, losing to Lansing Catholic 6-1,6-0, then losing to Eaton Rapids 7-6,7-6.  Second doubles Jude Gregory and Riley Yokom took third, beating Lakewood 6-3,6-0, losing to Portland 6-1,6-4, before beating Lansing Catholic in the 3rd/4th match 6-4,6-0.  Third doubles Myles Perrien and Mason Clark took home the championship for the Bulldogs, getting a bye in the first round, then beating Portland 6-1,3-6,6-2, and beating Lansing Catholic in the championship 6-3,0-6, 7-6.  Fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr took second, getting a bye in the first round, beating Eaton Rapids 7-6,1-6,6-1 before falling to Lansing Catholic in the championship 6-0,6-2.

The Bulldogs just missed out on second place by three points in what was a very good day for this tennis team.  Monday the Bulldogs play at home, which is senior night, before traveling to Mason next Wednesday for the Regional meet.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team defeated Lansing Eastern on Monday 7-1.  First singles Christian Miller won 6-1,6-1.  Second singles Cole Petersen won 6-0,6-2.  Third singles Jake Whitney won 6-4, 6-3.  Fourth singles Sam Montgomery, playing his first varsity match, lost a tough three setter 7-5,2-6,6-7.  
First doubles Ryan Lee and Jaxon Palmer won 6-1,6-1. Second doubles Jude Gregory and Riley Yokom won by default. Third doubles Myles Perrien and Mason Clark won 6-1,6-0. And fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr won 6-0,6-0.

The JV team of Lucas McCoy and Owen Yokom won 8-3.

The Bulldogs are back on the court Thursday for the league tournament which will be held at both Eaton Rapids and Charlotte high schools.

The Bulldog tennis team lost a tough match to league leading Lansing Catholic on Wednesday night which was also the purple match.  Christian Miller lost at first singles 6-0,6-0.  Cole Petersen lost at second singles 6-1,6-2.  Third singles Harper Duell lost 6-0,6-1 and fourth singles Jake Whitney lost his first match of the year 6-1,6-2.

First doubles Jaxon Palmer and Ryan Lee lost 6-3,6-4.  Second doubles Jude Gregory and Riley Yokom lost a tough match 7-5,6-4. Third doubles Mason Clark and Myles Perrien lost the match of the day, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6.  And fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr lost 6-1,6-3.  

The Bulldogs head to Lansing Eastern on Monday before competing in the league tournament next Thursday.

Ionia Boys Varsity Tennis dominates GR Union Invitational

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team won seven of eight flights to win the Grand Rapids Union invitational on Saturday.  The Bulldogs only lost one match on the day.

First singles Christian Miller defeated Kenowa Hills 8-1 before falling to GR Union 3-8 and finishing with a silver medal.  Second singles Cole Petersen defeated Kenowa Hills 8-1 and GR Union 8-7 to win gold.  Third singles Harper Duell defeated GR Union 8-1 and Kenowa Hills 8-2 for his gold medal.  And fourth singles Jake Whitney defeated Kenowa Hills 8-0 and GR Union 8-0 for his gold.

In doubles, first doubles Ryan Lee and Jaxon Palmer defeated GR Union 8-1 and Kenowa Hills 8-2 to win gold.  Second doubles Riley Yokom and Jude Gregory defeated GR Union 8-0 and Kenowa Hills 8-1 for their gold.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Myles Perrien won thier gold by defeating Kenowa Hills 8-1, and fourth doubles won thier gold by beating Kenowa Hills 8-5.  The bulldogs go to St. Johns on Monday and return home on Wednesday to face league opponent Lansing Catholic, which will be both the purple match and senior night.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team lost a tough match Wednesday to league rival Portland.  In a very tight match the Bulldogs eventually fell 5-3.  

First singles Christian Miller played a tremendous match before falling 7-5,7-5.  Second singles Cole Petersen lost 6-2,6-0.  Third singles Harper Duell lost a tough three set match 7-6,3-6,2-6.  And fourth singles Jake Whitney won a tough three set match 4-6,6-2,6-3.

In doubles, first doubles Jaxon Palmer and Ryan Lee lost 6-2,6-1.  Second doubles Jude Gregory and Riley Yokom lost 7-5,6-4.  Third doubles Myles Perrien and Mason Clark won 6-3,6-1 and fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr dominated by winning 6-1,6-1.  

In JV action, Owen Yokom and Sam Montgomery won 8-3, while Lucas McCoy and Jackson Fuller lost 6-1.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday traveling to St. Johns to take on the Redwings.

The boys varsity tennis team dominated non league opponent Owosso on Monday winning all eight flights.  First singles Christian Miller won 6-3,6-1.  Second singles Cole Petersen won 6-1,6-3.  Third singles Harper Duell won 6-1,6-0 and fourth singles Jake Whitney won 6-3,6-0.  

First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee won 6-1,6-1.  Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom won 6-2,6-1.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Myles Perrien won 6-1,6-3.  And the match of the day, fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr pulled out a tough three setter losing the first set 2-6, winning the second set 6-3 and winning the third set tiebreak 12-10.  

In JV action, Jackson Fuller and Owen Yokom lost 2-8, while Lucas McCoy and Sam Montgomery won 8-3.

The Bulldogs play again on Wednesday at league opponent Charlotte.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team won the Lakewood tournament on Saturday in dominating fashion winning seven of eight flights and only losing one match on the day.  First singles Christian Miller played his best tennis of the year beating Battle Creek Pennfield 6-1,6-1.  Christian beat Lakewood 6-4,6-3 and beat Hillsdale 6-0,6-0.  Second singles Cole Petersen won a tough opener against BC Pennfield 7-5,5-7, and 10-5 in the third set tiebreak.  Third singles Harper Duell stumbled in his first match losing 6-7, 6-1,2-10, before dominating his next two opponents.  Harper defeated Lakewood 6-2,6-0 and Hillsdale 6-0,6-4.  Fourth singles Jake Whitney remains undefeated on the year in singles action beating Pennfield 7-6,6-2, Lakewood 6-2,6-0 and Hillsdale 6-2,6-1.

In doubles action first doubles Ryan Lee and Jude Gregory defeated Hillsdale 6-3,6-0 and Lakewood 6-4,6-2. Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom defeated Hillsdale 6-3,6-1 and Lakewood 6-3,6-2. Third doubles Myles Perrien and Mason Clark beat Pennfield 6-1,6-0, Hillsdale 6-0,6-1 and Lakewood 6-3,6-2.  Finally the fourth doubles team of Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr defeated Pennfield 6-0,6-1 and Hillsdale 6-0,6-0.  

The Bulldog tennis team will host Owosso on Monday in non league action.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team won in big fashion Wednesday night with a 7-1 victory over league foe Lakewood.  Christian Miller lost a tough match at first singles in three sets, 6-3, 4-6,5-7.  Cole Petersen won by forfeit at second singles.  Third singles Harper Duell won 6-3,6-0 and fourth singles Jake Whitney won 6-1,6-0.

At first doubles Ryan Lee and Jude Gregory won 6-2,6-1.  Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom had a tough three set match that they pulled out 6-1,5-7, 6-1.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Myles Perrien won 6-2,6-1 and fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr dominated their match winning 6-0,6-0.

The JV doubles team of Jackson Fuller and Lucas McCoy won their match 8-0 while Owen Yokom and Sam Montgomery won 8-5.  

Ionia travels to Eaton Rapids on Wednesday of next week to take on the Greyhounds.

Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Fowlerville

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team lost to Fowlerville Thursday by a score of 7-1.  The Bulldogs played tough against tennis powerhouse Fowlerville and had some very close matches but couldn't quite get over the hump in a few key matches.

First singles Christian Miller lost a tough match 6-1,6-2.  Cole Petersen lost at second singles 6-0,6-3.  Harper Duell played a tremendous match before losing 6-4,7-5, and Jake Whitney, who is playing excellent tennis at fourth singles, pulled out the only victory for Ionia 6-3,6-3.

First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost 6-1,6-1.  Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom almost pulled out the second set but couldn't quite get it done and lost 6-2,7-5.  Third doubles Myles Perrien and Mason Clark also almost pulled out a set but lost in a tiebreak then fell 7-6, 6-0.  And fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Steven Flohr lost a tough match 6-1,6-1.

The bulldogs are on the road this Monday and then play Lakewood at home on Wednesday.  Ionia is now 0-2 on the year after playing two of the best teams on their schedule.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team opened its season on Friday hosting a quad with teams from Alma, Grand Ledge and East Kentwood.  It was a great day of tennis with the Bulldogs having success and playing a number of close, three set matches.

First singles Christian Miller went 1-2 on the day losing tough matches to Alma, 6-3,7-6 (7-4) and East Kentwood 6-1,6-1 before playing his best of tennis of the day in defeating Grand Ledge in a pro set 8-2.  Second singles Cole Petersen also went 1-2 on the day defeating East Kentwood 6-7 (2-7), 7-5 and 10-8, then losing to Grand Ledge 6-2, 4-6, 4-10.  Third singles Jake Whitney went 2-1 defeating Grand Ledge 7-5, 6-1, beating Alma 6-1,6-0, before losing his last match to East Kentwood 3-8.  Fourth singles Nolan Lundstrom lost two tough matches in his first action as a singles player.  Losing to East Kentwood 3-6, 6-3, 13-11 and losing to Grand Ledge 6-0,6-0.

First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee went 3-0 on the day defeating East Kentwood 6-3,6-1, beating Grand Ledge 6-3,3-6, 10-5 and finishing the day beating Alma 8-0.  Second doubles Riley Yokum and Jaxon Palmer went 2-1 beating Grand Ledge 6-3,6-2, beating Alma 6-0,6-1 before losing to East Kentwood 8-4.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Myles Perrien also went 2-1 defeating Alma 6-1,6-2, beating East Kentwood 6-2,6-0 before losing to Grand Ledge 8-4.  

Ionia played without a fourth doubles and did not pick up any points at that spot.

The tennis team will be back in action on Wednesday, August 21st, the first day of school, when they travel to Greenville for the first dual meet of the year.  Monday's match with Hastings has been postponed to a later date.
