Ionia's high school wrestling program had a busy weekend competing in the CAAC Championships. We had JV wrestlers competing Friday night at Fowlerville and then our boys and girls varsity team competed today, Saturday, at Holt High School. The CAAC championship is a very tough tournament with 21 teams competing and 6 of those teams are ranked in the top 10 in their respective divisions with over 60 individually ranked wrestlers competing! 

The Varsity program had a tough day where we had 9 athletes wrestling today. Sarah Schafer was our lone medalist and finishing as conference champion in the girls division. Also earning a win today were wrestlers Ricky Charon and Jackson Stoakes both coming just one match short of placing. 

The Ionia JV wrestling team attended the Conference JV tournament in Fowlerville on Friday night. Winning matches for the bulldogs were Zayne Mills-Huhn, Owen Yokom, and Edgar Rojas.  Also wrestling well and gaining valuable experience were Ariel Rojas, Bradley Thomas, Tiegen Christensen, and Drake Wittenbach.

Ionia will be back again this week for another busy weekend competing as we enter Districts week! Ionia travels to Forest Hills Eastern Wednesday for team districts, then Saturday boys travel to Harper Creek for individuals and girls travel to Hastings Sunday.
