Ionia Varsity Bulldogs Come Up Short Against Portland Varsity Raiders

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs could not keep pace with Portland Varsity Raiders 5-2 on Saturday at 250 E Tuttle Rd.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first after Christian Miller grounded out, scoring one run.

Lansing Catholic Varsity Cougars got on the board in the first inning after Lucas Payne singled, scoring two runs.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs Walk-Off In Nail-Biter Against Pewamo-Westphalia

It came down to the wire on Monday, as Ionia Varsity Bulldogs grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, over Pewamo-Westphalia. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Jaxon Palmer singled, scoring one run.

Pewamo-Westphalia opened the scoring in the first after Graham Schrauben drew a walk, scoring one run.

Christian Miller singled to center field, which helped Ionia Varsity Bulldogs tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Jude Gregory was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, a steal of home scored one run, Wolton Sandborn singled, scoring two runs, Colt Piercefield singled, scoring one run, Mason Braman drew a walk, scoring one run, Trevor Hodges singled, scoring one run, and a dropped third strike scored one run.

Ionia came back to win despite trailing 4-0 in the second.

An error put Alma on the board in the top of the first.

Alma added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Doyle singled down the left field line, Ethan Helinski was struck by a pitch, and Gideon Sacco walked, each scoring one run.

Ionia tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a double by Miller, and a fielder's choice by Hunter Roundtree.

Ethan Wenzel earned the win for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. The hurler surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out 12 and walking two. Brennen Palmer took the loss for Alma. The right-handed pitcher went five innings, surrendering five runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking one. Parker Seidelman started on the bump for Ionia. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and four runs (one earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Christian Miller singled to right field, Hunter Roundtree grounded into a fielder's choice, and Lakewood Varsity Vikings committed an error, each scoring one run.

Miller earned the win for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. The pitcher gave up two hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Ethan Guiles took the loss for Lakewood Varsity Vikings. The starter went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out four and walking seven. Trevor Hodges tossed one and one-third innings of shutout ball for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

Miller went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Ionia Varsity Bulldogs in hits. Roundtree and Miller each drove in two runs for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs.
