Ionia Girls Varsity Track and Field competed at the MHSAA LP Region 15-2 Meet held at Mason HS School

     The Girls Track and Field Team competed at the MHSAA LP Region 15-2 Meet held at Mason High School on Friday May 19, 2023.  As a Team Ionia finished 10th out of 16 teams.  The tiered Goals set for the meet included; getting as many athletes qualified to the MHSAA State Meet, Finish in the Top 8 in individual events, which is unofficially referred to as All Region and the athletes receive MHSAA Regional Medals, and as always we celebrate PR’s (and SR’s) which is a sign of improvement.  The Lady Bulldogs had 3 PR’s and 1 SR at the meet and medaled (Top 8) in 10 Events.  Unfortunately there were no State Qualifiers for the Ionia Girls Team. To qualify for the MHSAA State meet it is required to finish 1st or second in the Regional meet or meet or beat an Additional Qualifying Standard set for each event.

    Top finishers/ Medalists for Ionia included; Hailey Fuentes in the 100M Dash, 6th Place with a time of 13.19 seconds and 8th Place by Brianna Fuentes with a time of 13.41, Ella Udell in the 200M Dash with a time of 28..78 for an 8th Place Finish.  Megan Lennemann finished 3rd in the 3200 with a time of 12:18.00. Three of the Four Relay Teams medaled  The 4 X  100 Relay Team [Ella Udell, Grace Droste, Brianna Fuentes, and Hailey Fuentes] finished 6th with a time of 55.00 Seconds.  The 4 x 200 Relay Team [Ella Udell, Paislie Patterson, Brianna Fuentes, and Hailey Fuentes} finished 8th with a time of 1:54.86, and the 4 x 400 relay [Hannah Luttman, Paislie Patterson, Grace Droste, and Hailey Fuentes] finished 8th with a time of 4:48.68.  In the Field Events the Ionia Girls also medaled in High Jump with Tess Griffith finishing 4th with a jump of 4’-9” and the Pole Vault with Mimi Wegener finishing 3rd with a jump of 9’-0” narrowly missing an invitation to the State Meet.  Tess Griffith finished 8th with a jump of 7’-3”.

     Ionia will compete again on Wednesday May 24th at home in the CAAC White Conference Championship meet.  The Ionia Girls are currently sitting in Second Place in the CAAC White and are seeking to improve on their current standing. The Field events begin at 3:30PM and Running Events at 4:00PM.
