The Girls 7th grade Volleyball A Team faced a tough opponent tonight as they traveled to Lakewood to take on the Vikings.  The first set was a back and forth battle that ended with Ionia winning 26-24.  What a match!  Lakewood served tough and seemed to be everywhere as Ionia needed to use finese and power on offense.  The Bulldogs threw down 11 kills in the first set and were led by Carmen Hoppough with 4.  Six Ionia players served up aces and Brooklyn Shattuck and Carmen Hoppough led Ionia in the assist column.  The second set had a slight momentum shift as the Bulldogs were put to the test. Ionia battled tough and recorded 9 kills (Adelyse Perry had 4 and Carmen 3).  Dominating on defense with 4 digs each was Aubree Shaw and Adelyse.  Ionia dropped their first set of the season losing 20-25.  It's tough to keep a good team down!  Ionia came out fired up and Aubree Shaw served up 5 aces to give the Bulldogs the lead.  There was no looking back as Ionia took control and secured the match winning 15-9.  The team is really working well together and  is very offensive minded. From the service line, Carmen Hoppough, Mollie Lemke, Claire Nash, Adelyse Perry, Brooklyn Shattuck and Aubree Shaw all recorded aces. The A Team is 6-0 on the season and will face Eaton Rapids at home on Wednesday.  Come out and support your team.
