The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball teams took on the Portland Raiders tonight in their last match of the season. Amaya Frias started the Bulldogs off with five aces, four kills, and two solid blocks in the first set. Ava Bowen had four assists while Miah Wittenbach added one. Gena Rogers was hungry at the net and added three additional kills. Ionia took the first set 25-19. Keeping the same pace, Ava Bowen served up two aces and Frias added another four. Gena Rogers had four more kills and Dakota McConnon added another. Ava Benedict covered the back row well and did a nice job reading the other team's hitters. Ella Bouwhuis was aggressive on defense and did not let a ball drop! The Lady Dawgs defeated Portland 25-13. Ionia did not let up and played well overall as a team in the final set. Erin Steffen was aggressive and hustled on the court in both the front and back row. The 8th Grade A-team played well together this year and came a long way as a team! I am excited to see where this group will go in the future! The Bulldogs defeated Portland 15-8 in the end.
