Ionia Freshman Volleyball won their home opener on Thursday night against Greenville. The bulldogs had to fight to pull out the win in 3; 25-23, 18-25, and17-15. The bulldogs came out with strong serves and serve receive in game 1. Avery Hoppough put up some great sets to assist Shiann Boer, Danica White, Ariana Frias, and Brooklyn Burhans put the ball down with several kills. In game 2 the bulldogs couldn’t shake a tough Greenville server and they got a quick lead of 7 points. Ionia missed 5 serves and couldn’t seem to shift the momentum until Marley Piselli closed the gap with a 6 point serving run followed by another four by Kaylynn Wizorek. Even with multiple kills by Ariana Frias and some great passes by Cora Nummer and Kaya Clark in the back row the point deficit proved too much for the bulldogs in game two. Game three was neck and neck. Every time the bulldogs earned several points points the Jackets came back and answered. The bulldogs served strong with Danica White serving 5 strong points for the bulldogs. “Our Freshman played great under pressure tonight, we continue to be be very proud of their hard work,” said coach Amy Frias. The Freshman Lady Dawgs now have a record of 4-2-1 and will play next in Ionia on September 12 at 5:00, against Portland.
