The Ionia JV Softball team continued their season at home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, facing the Lakewood Vikings in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs showed resilience and determination, bouncing back from a tough Game 1 loss to secure an exciting comeback victory in Game 2.

Game 1:
Ionia started strong, scoring one run in the first inning while holding the Vikings to just two runs. However, offensive struggles in the second inning, combined with a nine-run surge from Lakewood, put the Bulldogs in a tough position. Ionia managed to score once more in the third inning but ultimately fell short, losing 2-18.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Miah Wittenbach and Taylor Ferris, both going 2-for-2. Kaya Clark and Adah Drown each went 1-for-2, while Izzy Gallagher and Ani Falcon both drew one walk. Bailey Fothergill worked two walks to get on base. On the mound, Taylor Ferris and Adah Drown each recorded a strikeout.

Game 2:
Determined to bounce back, the Bulldogs came out strong in Game 2, scoring four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-3 lead. Lakewood responded with a run in the second, tying the game at 4-4. The third inning saw an offensive battle, with both teams scoring five runs, keeping the game locked at 9-9.

In the fourth inning, defensive errors allowed the Vikings to push across three runs, putting Ionia behind 9-12. However, in the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs remained composed, using smart and aggressive baserunning to rally for four runs, securing a thrilling 13-12 victory.

Offensively, Adah Drown led the way, going 3-for-3. Bailey Fothergill went 2-for-2 with a walk, while Ani Falcon was 1-for-1. Taylor Ferris, Kaylynn Wizorek, and Izzy Gallagher each went 2-for-3. Kaya Clark showed patience at the plate, drawing three walks, while Aubrei Nash added another walk. Adah Drown dominated on the mound, striking out six batters. The Bulldogs made key plays when they mattered most, with contributions from every player helping secure the well-earned victory.

Ionia will look to build on this momentum as they host the Fowlerville Gladiators on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 4 PM.
