The Ionia Girls JV Softball Team ended their win streak on Friday night as they were defeated by Saranac in both games for the annual Purple Game. The losses were fueled by errors and an inability to get the bats going during the first game. The only two hits were from Allyson Strasser (1-3) and Nevaeh Stanard (1-2 with a walk). This led to the 8-0 defeat for the girls. The second game started much better as Ionia was able to put up a 2 run inning in the first. Everything went downhill after this lead was attained, as Saranac was able to come back and mercy the team 14-4. Again, the win for Saranac was caused by many errors on the Ionia infield and outfield. Ionia was able to connect with the ball much better this game as Cashmier Austin, Kaidence Thomas, Allyson Strasser, and Liberty Stanard were able to go 2-3. In the end the girls were able to overcome the losses and remember the point of the Purple Game, which was to play for more than just the love of softball, but to honor and remember those who are in their fight with cancer. Their record now stands as 7-5 and the next game for the girls is Wednesday, May 4th verses Portland.
