The Ionia Girls JV Softball Team added two more wins to their 5-3 record, attaining a 20-4 and 12-6 win over Hastings High School. The Bulldogs started off strong offensively as Kaidence Thomas went 2-3, Jazmin Cooper went 3-3 and Shyann Hines went 4-4. Kaidence Thomas pitched, striking out 5 batters in the 3 innings they played attaining the mercy win. The second game started off a struggle for the girls as there were many unneccesary errors in the field. Hastings was able to start with a 6-1 lead into the second inning. After this they were able to really clean up in the field and get hot with their bats. Allyson Strasser went 2-3 with a walk, Nevaeh Stanard went 3-4, and Liberty Stanard went 3-3 with a walk. Liberty Stanard pitched in the second for the 12-6 win. Their record now stands at 7-3 and they are hoping to keep the win streak into their annual Purple Game vs. Saranac on Friday, April 29th at home. They are playing for a greater cause than just softball as this game is for those who continue fighting or lost their fight to cancer.
