The Ionia Bulldog Varsity Tennis fought hard at Regionals, but came up just short of the points needed to take the team to the state tournament. For Doubles, First doubles Landon Duell (12) and Harper Duell (9) defeated Fruitport 6-3, 6-1,and fourth doubles Ben Marhofer(12) and Cole Petersen (9) also defeated  Fruitport 6-0, 6-1. In Singles,second singles Miles Gregory (12) defeated Kenowa Hills 7-5, 6-0, but fell in the semifinal match to Forest Hills Eastern in three tough sets. Third Singles Brett Petersen (12) defeated Kenowa Hills in the first round 6-0, 6-1, but fell to East Grand Rapids in the semis. This was our first year in this regional assigned by the MHSAA, and the region was tough with 9 teams and two teams ranked in the top ten in the state, East Grand Rapids ranked 6th and host Forest Hills Eastern ranked 10th. However, At first singles, Sam Eppler (12) was the Regional runner up champion, defeated Coopersville 6-1, 6-0, Defeated 6th ranked East Grand Rapids 6-3, 6-1, and fell in the championship match in a tough three sets 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 to number 10 ranked Forest Hills Eastern. Sam punched his ticket to the state tournament and will represent Ionia at first singles at states on October 13-15.  It was a spectacular year for Ionia tennis and the future looks bright with the JV who practiced hard and will be ready to take over in the fall.
