Ionia Boys varsity tennis participated in the 8 team regional competition at Haslett High School on October 6, 2021. The 8 schools participating in the regional were, Ionia, Eaton Rapids, Charlotte, Haslett, DeWitt, Mason ,Fowlerville and Waverly High Schools.  Schools needed 10 points to qualify for  the state tournament, each win at regionals counts as one point, and Ionia High School earned 6 points total. Ionia played for points seven and eight but came up just a bit short. "This is by far the best an Ionia team has done in my nine years with the program, in the past, we maybe had 2 or 3 points a year at most but this year was different." Said an enthusiastic Head Coach Patricia Eppler. One player Brett Peterson (11) third singles went all the way to the championship game at his flight. Other winners were first singles Sam Eppler(11), fourth singles Ethan Rowland(12), Third doubles Colter Clark (11) and Elijah Hatfield(11) and fourth doubles Christian and Jade Miller. Though the team did not qualify for the state tournament other coaches in the region took notice of Ionia Tennis. The Haslett Boys Varsity Coach, gushed how impressed he was that this was the best and most competitive Ionia Boys team he has ever seen in all his years at Haslett High School. Next year the team wil be almost all seniors and the attitude is back to back CAAC White league Champions and then onto the state tournament!
