The Ionia boys varsity tennis team took first place at the Grand Rapids union invitational Saturday, defeating Grand Rapids Union, Grand Rapids Ottowa Hills and Kelloggsville.  Ionia won five of the eight flights and took second in the other three.  At first singles Sam Eppler took 2nd, losing to ottowa hills 4-10, beating Kelloggsville 10-1, and beating Union 10-2.  Brett Longanbach played 2nd singles and also took second, beating Kelloggsville 10-4, Union 10-6, before losing to Ottowa Hills 2-10.  Miles Gregory won his flight at 3rd singles beating Union 10-4, Kelloggsville 10-2 and Union 10-3.  And at 4th singles, freshman Devin Leland won his first varsity match and his first varsity tournament beating Union 10-9.

1st doubles Brett Petersen and Collin Palmer won their flight beating Kelloggsville 10-4, Union 10-2, and Ottowa Hills 10-3.  2nd doubles Ethan Rowland and Colter Clark also won their flight beating Union 10-2, Kelloggsville 10-3, and Ottowa Hills 10-2.  3rd doubles Joel Cairns and Landon Duell took second losing to Union 8-10, and beating Kelloggsville 10-1.  4th doubles Lucas Wandell and Elijah Hatfield also won their flight defeating Union 10-3.  
 

Ionia wraps up the dual match part of the season Monday at Waverly before competing in the league tournament Thursday at Portland.
