The Ionia boys varsity tennis team defeated Portland Wednesday night by a score of 5-3. The bulldogs defeated their league rival with some outstanding matches. 1st singles Sam Eppler won 6-1,6-2. 2nd singles Jack Eppler won the deciding match of the night winning 6-0,3-6,6-3. Brett Longanbach continues to dominate winning 6-2,6-0. And 4th singles Miles Gregory won 6-3,6-4.
1st doubles Collin Palmer and Brett Petersen lost 6-2,6-2. 2nd doubles Ethan Rowland and Colter Clark lost 6-4,6-3. 3rd doubles Joel Cairns and Landon Duell lost a tough match 6-4,7-6. And the 4th doubles team of Elijah Hatfield and Lucas Wandell had a comeback for the ages, down 4-6, 2-5, they came back to win the second set 7-5 and won the third set 6-1. Ionia is now 6-2 on the year and plays at Hastings Thursday.
