Ionia girls varsity defeated rival Lakewood by a score of 3-1 on Monday night. Lakewood went into the halftime up by a score of 1-0. Ionia had plenty of possession and plenty of chances throughout the first half, but the results weren't there. After regrouping at halftime and making small adjustments Ionia came out strong and steady in the second half, holding Lakewood scoreless and creating opportunity after opportunity on goal. 

Natalia Magallon created many opportunities throughout the entire game, and was able to score 2 times on the night. Ava Benedict played excellent on the wing, adding a goal of her own and an assist. Ebony Williams would add an assist for Ionia in her first game of the season. Kaylynn Doty recorded 14 saves in the game, including some big time plays late in the second half to keep the lead. 

Josie Lee was exceptional on the defensive end, shutting Lakewood down time after time, and Kiara Goodsell played some of her best minutes down the stretch of the game. 

Ionia improves to 3-2 on the season and will travel to Fowlerville on Wednesday night for a jv/varsity double header. Varsity kickoff is at 7 pm.
