The Ionia girls varsity soccer team opened their season with a commanding 6-0 win over Lansing Everett on Wednesday night. 

Our defense really controlled the pace and the flow of the entire game, shutting Everett down at every opportunity. We held Everett to just one shot attempt on goal and our defense was able to keep the ball on the foot of the offense all night. 

Ava Benedict started her first career varsity game and did not disappoint, scoring a hatrick on the night, all in the first half. Taylor Browne and Natalia Magallon would also add goals on the night , with Lansing Everett scoring an own goal to round out the scoring. Isabelle Vasquez and Kiara Goodsell both recorded assists in the game.

Ionia will look to make it two in a row when they take on Belding in a home matchup on Friday night. Jv kickoff will be 5:30 and varsity will kick at 7.
