Ionia girls varsity soccer won its third game in a row in exciting fashion, advancing to the championship of the CAAC cup tournament. In a rematch game versus Lakewood, the game would go into sudden death penalty kicks, with Ionia coming out on top.

Ionia would apply the pressure early but Lakewood would score first, halfway through the opening half. Ionia would answer shortly after. Kelila Rustin would take the ball into the corner and play a perfectly placed ball for Addyson Roundtree to put in the back of the goal, her third goal in three games. The game would be tied 1-1 at halftime. 

Natalia Matgallon would score just 4 minutes in the second half to take the 2-1 lead. Also her third goal in three games. Lakewood would score a perfectly placed free kick 15 minutes later and the game would become stalemate as the clock expired, sending the game to sudden death penalty kicks. 

Tessa Masengale and Kelila Rustin would score their kicks with ease. Addyson Roundtree would step up to put the game on ice. She burried it in the back of the net for the walkoff goal and win.

Kaylynn Doty was huge in goal in the shootout, making two significant diving saves to help secure the win. 

Ionia improves their record to 6-7-3 and will take on either Olivet or Lansing Waverly in the CAAC Cup championship. TIme and date tbd.
