The Ionia Girls' Cross Country team participated for the first time in the 2024 MSU Auto-Owner Sparta Invitational at the Forest Akers East Golf Course. The course was flat with a few rolling hills and had humid weather. There were 34 teams and 324 girls racing in the event. The girls' team placed 32nd. Junior Carleigh Thompson led the team with a time of 23:10.8, placing 96th. Freshman Fiona Sizemore finished in 202nd place with a time of 25:58.0, while Freshman Ava Benedict placed 229th with a time of 26:54.2. The rest of the team included freshman Dakota Badder finishing 320th, junior Angie Reyes finishing 322nd, and freshman Jaelyn Reyes finishing 324th.
The Bulldogs will be hosting the next meet on Tuesday, September 17th at Ionia High School. The boys' race will start at 5pm, followed by the girls' race at 5:40pm.
