The Ionia girls varsity basketball team lost to Portland Friday night by a score of 54-29. Portland jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and led 30-8 at halftime. Ashley Bower had 19 of her game high 25 points in the first half. Brynn Reams led Ionia with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Melayna Braman had 5 points and 5 rebounds and Jessa Swinehart had 5 points and 3 rebounds.
Portland is now 3-0 in the league and Ionia is 1-2 in the league and 1-4 overall. Ionia plays at Charlotte on Tuesday in another league game.
