PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA HS: 49
The Ionia girls varsity basketball team lost the home opener to Pewamo Westphalia 49-25 Tuesday night. PW jumped out to an 11 point lead to start the game and Ionia never got closer.
Aylah Smith led PW with 14 points. Dani Pohl and Maria Thelen both had 8.
Ionia was led by Melayna Braman with 7pts and Jessa Swinehart and Brynn Reams both had 6pts.
Ionia is on the road Thursday for its first league game against Lansing Catholic.
