ST. JOHNS HIGH SCHOOL: 9
The 10 a.m. game ended with Portland Beating Lakewood.
Ionia battled St. Johns in the noon game and got the 4 - 1 Victory. Sophomore Victoria Gutierrrez was in the circle and went the full 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and one run while striking out 5. Offensively Junior center fielder Raj Esquivel had the Big Stick as she Homered in the 7th and over all went 2 for 2 with 2 walks, scoring 3 runs and collecting one RBI. Junior Londyn Brown went 3 for 4, scoring one run and collecting one RBI. Sophomore Kam Perry had a big hit knocking in one RBI. In this game Ionia commited zero errors!
The District Championship Game started at 2:00 and it went 8 innings and Ionia got the huge Win over Portland 12 - 9 to earn the right to collect the District Championship Hardware! Melayna Braman was in the circle and went the full 8 innings, allowing 12 hits & 9 runs, striking out 3. At the plate we were led by Melayna Braman going 4 for 5, scoring 4 runs and collecting 2 RBI's. Londyn Brown stayed hot and went 3 for 5, scoring 3 runs. Catcher Erin Groom went 2 for 4 with one walk, collecting 2 RBI's. Tori Gutierrez went 2 for 5. The following players each had one hit: Frosh Emma White, Senior Rachel Siemen and Frosh Alexias Daugherty. The Bulldogs did commit 2 errors in the 8 inning game but, we didn't let that bring us down. It was great that so many came out to support the team and it was a really positive dug-out today lots of cheering and smiles and a few dance moves.
Thanks to Everyone that helped Ionia put on a really nice District Tournament, so many that did field work, concessions, donating food and water, announcing the games, playing awesome tunes, running game changer, keeping a hard copy scorebook and supporting the team not just your player...ya'll were awesome!! Big Thanks to our Athletic Director that works Really Hard so that we can have these opportunities, Thanks Andy!! Big thanks also to my coaching staff that puts in alot of time and energy into making the Team Better! I SEE YOU ALL & your all so appreciated!!
Ionia finished regular season at 19 &15 overall, 6 & 2 in league and so far 2 & 0 in post season. We travel to Chelsea next Saturday to compete in the Regionial Game.
