Congratulations to Mimi Wegner and Charles Frost who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for March. Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the March IHS student awards ceremony. The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics. Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.
March Female Athlete of the Month: Mimi Wegner
Parents: Collen and Werner
College: Otterbein University (will pole vault for their track & field team)
Major: Zoo and Conservation Science/Marine Science
Sports: Track & Field 3yrs. and Swim & Dive 1 yr. (State qualifier in both)
Academics: IHS Senior Scholar, CAAC Scholar-Athlete, IHS Scholar-Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll Student.
Leadership: IHS National Honor Society, Student Council, Superintendent Advisory, volunteer coaching pole vault barn and with track and field team, and volunteer at Ionia County Animal Shelter.
March Male Athlete of the Month: Charles Frost
Parents: Paul and Christina
College: University of Michigan or Michigan State
Major: Biology (Pre-Med)
Sports: Football 3 yrs., Basketball 1yrs., Powerlifting 3 yrs., and Track and Field 4 yrs.
Academics: IHS Scholar Athlete, CAAC Scholar-Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll
Leadership: President of Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee, President of IHS YAC, member of National Honors Society, President of ICCC Student Council, IHS College Ambassador, and a captain of the Powerlifting team.
Both Mimi and Charles are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes. Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for March!
