Congratulations to Lilly Reams and Tyson Evans who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for April.  Both student-athletes were recognized at last Thursday’s April student awards ceremony.  The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics.  Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.

April Female Athlete of the Month: Lilly Reams

Parents: Jason and Tami Reams, Rob and Tricia Gregory

College: Baker College 

Major: Nursing planning to become a CRNA(certified registered nurse anesthetist)

Sports: volleyball (4 yrs), basketball (4 yrs), and track and field (4yrs).  Will be a Block I recipient for the Class of 2024.

Academics: CAAC Academic All-Conference, CAAC Top 10 Senior Scholar-Athlete, IHS Scholar-Athlete, IHS Bulldog Scholar, and IHS Senior Scholar.

Leadership: President of the Superintendent's Advisory Committee, Secretary of National Honor Society, Treasurer of Student Council, a member of the Principal's Advisory Committee, participated in 4H at the Ionia Free Fair and the reigning 2023 Ionia Free Fair Queen. 

April Male Athlete of the Month: Tyson Evans

Parents: Lashana Shattuck and Justin Evans

College: Albion College

Area of Study: Education

Sports: Cross Country and Track and Field

Academics: CAAC Academic All-Conference, CAAC Top 10 Senior Scholar-Athlete, IHS Scholar-Athlete, IHS Bulldog Scholar, and IHS Senior Scholar.

Leadership: Captain of  Cross Country team Captain, Colorguard, Winterguard and C.O.W. (Captain of the week) for Track

Lilly and Tyson are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for April!
