Congratulations to Kate Brown and Aden Wenzel who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for October. Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at last Thursday morning’s October IHS student awards ceremony. The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics. Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.
October Female Athlete of the Month: Kate Brown
Parents: Joseph and Tonya Brown
College: Undecided
Major: Biology
Sports: Volleyball (3 yrs.), Tennis (3 yrs), and Powerlifting (1 yr.)
Academics: Bulldog Scholar, AP Scholar Award, IHS Scholar-Athlete, CAAC All-Academic, and Academic All-State Volleyball Team.
Leadership: NHS, Student Council, Interact, Principal Advisory Committee, and Captain of volleyball and tennis team.
October Male Athlete of the Month: Aden Wenzel
Parents: Heidi and Brandon Wenzel
College: Baker College
Area of Study: Culinary Arts
Sports: Football (4 yrs.), Basketball (3 yrs.), and Golf (3 yrs.). Is on pace to win the Block I Award
Academics: IHS Scholar-Athlete
Leadership: Captain of varsity football team, member of Link Crew 2 yrs., and Ionia Movie Theater volunteer.
Both Kate and Aden are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes. Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for October!
