Congratulations to Rajalyaj Esquivel and Ethan Bowen who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for March.  Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the March IHS student awards ceremony.  The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics.  Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.

March Female Athlete of the Month: Rajalyaj Esquivel

Parents: Melissa and Jose Esquivel

College: Central Michigan University

Major: Early Childhood Development

Sports: Volleyball 4 yrs., Basketball 4 yrs., and Softball 4 yrs. (Will be a 3 season Block I recipient).

Academics: CAAC Top 10 Senior Scholar-Athlete, CAAC Scholar-Athlete, IHS Scholar-Athlete, IHS Bulldog Scholar, and IHS Senior Scholar.

Leadership: Member of  Ionia National Honors Society and captain of the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams

March Male Athlete of the Month: Ethan Bowen

Parents: Craig and Angela Bowen

College: Aquinas College (will play baseball for the Saints)

Area of Study: Clinical Exercise Science

Sports: Football 4yrs., Wrestling 3 yrs., Basketball 1 yr., and Baseball 4 yrs. (Will be a 3 season Block I recipient).

Academics: CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, IHS Bulldog Scholar and IHS Senior Scholar.

Leadership: Member of  Ionia National Honors Society and captain of wrestling and football teams.

Both Rajalyaj and Ethan are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for March!
