Congratulations to Londyn Brown and Lance Atkinson who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for January.  Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the January IHS student awards ceremony last Thursday.  The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics.  Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.

January Female Athlete of the Month: Londyn Brown

Parents: Ty and Teela Brown

College: Grand Valley State University 

Major: Business

Sports: Volleyball (all-conference), Basketball, and Softball (all-conference and all-district).  Will b a 3 season Block I recipient. 

Academics: CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll Student.

Leadership: Ionia High School National Honor Society Member and Basketball Team Captain.

January Male Athlete of the Month: Lance Atkinson

Parents: John and Julie Atkinson

College: Alma College (has committed to play basketball)

Area of Study: Nursing 

Sports: Soccer, Basketball (all-conference), Baseball/Track

Academics: CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll student.

Leadership: Ionia High School National Honor Society Member, College Advisory Committee, Co-Captain of basketball team, and Unified games volunteer.

Both Londyn and Lance are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for January!
