Congratulations to Kassidy Casillas and Clay Currigan who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for May.  Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the IHS student awards ceremony Thursday morning .  The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics.  Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.

May Female Athlete of the Month: Kassidy Casillas

Parents: Deb and Jeff Casillas

College: Central Michigan University

Major: Graphic Design

Sports: Basketball 2 yrs, Volleyball 4 yrs, and Track & Field 4 yrs.  Daily News Volleyball Player of the Year Award 2020, and LSJ prep athlete of the week Fall 2021.

Academics: IHS Honor Roll all four years, IHS Scholar Athlete all four years, CAAC All-Academic all four years, CAAC Top Ten Senior Scholar-Athlete Award bulldog scholar award all four years, Citizen of the Month May 2019, Student of the Month September 2021, Citizen of the Month December 2021, MIVCA academic all-state all four years.  

Leadership: Student council, NHS junior and senior year, varsity volleyball team captain junior and senior year, Toys for Tots volunteer work, the volleyball Top Dawg award 2021, and track and field Spirit of the Dog award 2021

May Male Athlete of the Month: Clay Currigan

Parents: Betty Jo and Ryan Rayner

College: Grand Rapids Community College

Major: Finance

Sports: Football 1 yr, Basketball 4 yrs, and Track & Field 4 yrs.  

Academics: IHS Honor Roll student, Ionia Scholar-Athlete award, CAAC Scholar-Athlete award, and member of the Academic All-State Track & Field and Basketball teams.

Leadership: Member of NHS junior year and  youth basketball camp volunteer.

Both Kassidy and Clay are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for May!
