Congratulations to Jessa Swinehart and Lane Thomas who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for April.  Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the IHS student awards ceremony last Thursday.  The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics.  Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.

April Female Athlete of the Month: Jessa Swinehart

Parents: Scott and Anne Swinehart

College: Hope College

Major: Marine Biology

Sports: Volleyball, Basketball, and Tennis. Will receive the Block I award for participating in 3 sports seasons each year.   

Academics: IHS Scholar athlete, CAAC scholar athlete, CAAC Top 10 Senior Scholar Athlete, NHS, Academic all state, BCAM scholar athlete, IHS senior scholar.

Leadership: Class president, Tennis Captain, Principal Student Advisory Council, IAAC, Superintendent Advisory Council

May Male Athlete of the Month: Lane Thomas

Parents: Bill and Kristy Thomas

Career Plans: To attend a trades school to become and electrician.

Sports: Football, Basketball, and Golf.  Will receive the Block I award for participating in 3 sports seasons each year.   

Academics: Scholar athlete, basketball academic team all state, citizen of the month.

Leadership: Football team captain

Both Jessa and Lane are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for April!
