2020-21 Independent Bank Athletes of the Year

Congratulations to Sara Bevington and Kyle Griffith who were named the 2020-21 Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Year.  Both Sara and Kyle were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough on Thursday, May 27th at Class Night.  The award has been presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics for over 25 years.  Independent Bank gave each student-athlete  a $1,000 scholarship towards their future education.

Female Athlete of the Year: Sara Bevington

Parents: Rob and Jamie Bevington

College: Adrian

Major: Health Sciences

Sports: Girls Golf 4 yrs, Girls Basketball 4 yrs, and Softball 4 yrs. Honorable mention, two time MVP and All-Conference in golf.  Recipient of the Block I Award for participating in a sport each season all 4 years of high school.

Academics:  IHS Senior Scholar, CAAC Top 10 Senior Scholar-Athlete, CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS National Honors Society member, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll student.

Leadership: Student Council, NHS,  Ionia Athletic Advisory Committee, Principal's Student  Advisory Committee, Interact Club, College Ambassadors, and SADD
 

Male Athlete of the Year: Kyle Griffith

Parents: Jason and Kara Griffith 

College: Olivet 

Major: Undecided

Sports: Football 4 yrs, Basketball 4yrs.

Academics: IHS Senior Scholar, CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, IHS Honor Roll student, and member of the 2019 Football and 2021 Basketball Academic All-State Teams.

Leadership: Ionia Athletic Advisory Committee, Principal's Student Advisory Committee, and IHS National Honors Society member.

Both student-athletes will be continuing their athletic careers at college next year, as Sara will be playing on the women’s golf team at Adrian and Kyle will be playing on the men’s basketball team at Olivet.  Thank you for representing your teams, families, school, and community with pride over the past 4 years!
