Congratulations to Breann Wandell and Tyler Walczak who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for December.  Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the Lloyd T. Smith Memorial Field on Friday, January, 8th for their accomplishments.  The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics.  Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.

December Female Athlete of the Month: Breann Wandell

Parents: Brent and Lisa Wandell

College: Ferris State University

Major: Pharmacy

Sports: Cross Country 4 yrs., Basketball 1 yr, Powerlifting 3 yrs, and Track 3 yrs. She is on pace to earn the Block I Award for 3 Season Athlete all 4 years of her high school career.  

Academics: IHS National Honors Society, CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll student.

Leadership: Ionia Athletic Advisory Committee, Historian for HNS, and Captain of the Cross Country team.

December Male Athlete of the Month: Tyler Walczak

Parents: Mike and Jodi Walczak

College: Ferris State University

Major: Plastics and Material Engineering

Sports: Football 4 yrs. and Basketball 4 yrs. 

Academics: Academic All-State Football Team, IHS National Honors Society member, CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll student.

Leadership: Interact Club, youth basketball and football camps, and National Honors Society.

Both Breann and Tyler are not only successful in their respective sports but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for December and thank you to Independent Bank for their continued  support of our student-athletes.
