Congratulations to Michaela Castle and Seth Groom who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for November. Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough at the Lloyd T. Smith Memorial Field on Wednesday, December, 2nd. The award is presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics. Each student-athlete now qualifies for a chance to win the $1000 Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented on senior night to one male and one female athlete.
November Female Athlete of the Month: Michaela Castle
Parents: Matthew and Michelle Castle
College: University of Michigan or New York University
Major: Political Science
Sports: Volleyball 4 yrs, Girls Basketball 3 yrs, and Softball 3 yrs. She is on pace to earn the Block I Award for 3 Season Athlete all 4 years of her high school career.
Academics: IHS National Honors Society, CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll student.
Leadership: Secretary of the Ionia Athletic Advisory Committee, Principal's Student Advisory Committee, Secretary of the Youth Advisory Council, President of Student Council, Secretary of National Honors Society, Link Crew member, and a member of the Students Against Distracted Driving.
November Male Athlete of the Month: Seth Groom
Parents: Gary and Charity Groom
College: GRCC
Major: Pre-Engineering
Sports: Soccer 4 years and Basketball 3 years.
Academics: IHS National Honors Society member, CAAC Scholar Athlete, IHS Scholar Athlete, and IHS Honor Roll student.
Leadership: Ionia Athletic Advisory Committee, Interact Club and Captain of the soccer team.
Both Michaela and Seth are not only successful in athletics but in the classroom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes. Congratulations to both of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank female and male student-athletes of the month for November and thank you to Independent Bank for their continued support of our student-athletes.
