Congratulations to Taylor Kirby and Collin Stewart who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Year. Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representatives Boomer Hoppough and Jenny Dinehart at the Point Office location on Monday, June 15th. The award has been presented to seniors based on leadership, academics, and athletics for over 25 years. Each student-athlete is awarded a $500 scholarship typically handed out on senior night but do to the COVID-19 pandemic Taylor and Collin were joined by family members, coaches, IHS administrators, and Independent Bank representatives for a short ceremony today.
Female Athlete of the Year: Taylor Kirby

College: Michigan State University
Major: Undecided
Sports: Volleyball, Basketball, and Tennis all 4 years. Honorable mention All-State Basketball. Block I 3 Season Athlete all 4 years recipient.
Academics: Top 20 Senior Scholar, IHS National Honors Society member, CAAC Senior Scholar Athlete, Academic All-State Volleyball and Basketball, and Ionia Scholar Athlete.
Leadership: President of Student Council, Vice President of NHS, Ionia Athletic Advisory Committee, Principal's Student Advisory Committee, Interact Club, and Youth Advisory Committee, and Captain of basketball and tennis teams.
Male Athlete of the Year: Collin Stewart
Parents: Ms. Nicole Stewart and Mr. and Mrs. CJ Stewart
College: Kettering University
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Sports: Football and Golf all 4 years, Basketball freshman year.
Academics: Top 20 Senior Scholar, IHS National Honors Society member, CAAC Senior Scholar Athlete, Academic All-State Football, and Ionia Scholar Athlete.
Leadership: Volunteer for highway clean-up, toys for tots, and Zion Food Pantry. Captain of 2019 football team.
Both Taylor and Collin are athletes who are not only successful in athletics but in the classroom as well, and have represented their teams families, school, and community with pride. Congratulations again for being recognized as the Independent Bank male and female student-athletes of the year. You
