Ionia Varsity Bulldogs Come Up Short Against Portland Varsity Raiders

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs could not keep pace with Portland Varsity Raiders 5-2 on Saturday at 250 E Tuttle Rd.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first after Christian Miller grounded out, scoring one run.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs added one run in the second after Colt Piercefield singled to center field.

In the bottom of the third inning, Portland Varsity Raiders went back into the lead after AJ Weber walked, Brody Moore walked, and Hudson Martin laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.

Evan Thelen earned the win for Portland Varsity Raiders. The hurler gave up three hits and two runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking four. Piercefield took the loss for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. The starter went four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on one hit, striking out eight and walking six.

Parker Seidelman, Ryan Lee, and Piercefield each collected one hit for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. Piercefield led Ionia Varsity Bulldogs with one run batted in. The leadoff hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
