Ionia Varsity Bulldogs Defeats Charlotte Orioles Varsity In Pitcher's Duel

Both teams were strong on the mound on Wednesday, but Ionia Varsity Bulldogs defeated Charlotte Orioles Varsity 3-2. Colt Piercefield started the game for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs and recorded 17 outs.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs were the first to get on the board in the first when Hunter Roundtree drew a walk, scoring one run.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs added one run in the second. Piercefield hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 2-0.

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs added one run in the third. Kellan Ferguson walked, making the score 3-0.

Piercefield earned the win for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking three. Ethan Cheyne took the loss for Charlotte Orioles Varsity. The righty went one inning, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out three and walking one. Parker Seidelman collected the save.

Piercefield went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Number eight hitter, Nolan Lundstrom, showed the depth of Ionia Varsity Bulldogs's lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Ionia Varsity Bulldogs stole four bases in the game.

Karter Jackson led Charlotte Orioles Varsity with one run batted in. The catcher went 1-for-4 on the day. Nolan Aapala went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Charlotte Orioles Varsity in hits. Jackson and Aapala each stole multiple bases for Charlotte Orioles Varsity. Charlotte Orioles Varsity ran wild on the base paths, piling up five stolen bases for the game.

Both teams were strong on the hill on Wednesday, but Charlotte Orioles Varsity was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 2-1 victory over Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. Christian Miller started the game for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs and recorded 15 outs.

A double by Ty Bowzer put Charlotte Orioles Varsity on the board in the top of the third.

Jackson Stewart earned the win for Charlotte Orioles Varsity. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Miller took the loss for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. The hurler went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two and walking two.

Wyatt Erridge and Kellan Ferguson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs while hitting back-to-back. Ryan Lee led the team with one run batted in. Ionia Varsity Bulldogs didn't commit a single error in the field. Erridge had the most chances in the field with four.

Bowzer led Charlotte Orioles Varsity with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Mason Croley set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Charlotte Orioles Varsity with two hits in two at bats.

Ionia improves to 10-8 on the season. Ionia will host Alma, Ovid-Elsie and Greenville on Saturday for the Ionia Invitational. First pitch is at 10:00 am.
