Game 1

 

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs defeated Saranac Varsity Redhawks 10-0 on Friday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Miles Gregory induced a fly out from Evan Johnson to finish off the game.

 

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs opened up scoring in the first inning.

 

A single by Maddox Foster in the fifth inning was a positive for Saranac Varsity Redhawks.

 

Ethan Bowen led the Ionia Varsity Bulldogs to victory on the hill. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three innings, striking out eight of nine hitters and walking zero.  Garrett Lee and Gregory entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

 

Chase Stephens took the loss for Saranac Varsity Redhawks. The righty allowed four hits and nine runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two.

 

Alex Barr went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Ionia Varsity Bulldogs in hits.  Ionia Varsity Bulldogs didn't commit a single error in the field. Daniel McCoy had the most chances in the field with seven.  Ionia Varsity Bulldogs tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Bowen led the way with three. Matt McCoy had a hit and an RBI, Kane Lundstrom also had a hit and Rbi, as well as Danny McCoy. 

 

Foster led Saranac Varsity Redhawks with one hit in two at bats.

 

Game 2

Saranac Varsity Redhawks scored five runs in the fifth inning, but Ionia Varsity Bulldogs still won 9-5 on Friday.  The big inning for Saranac Varsity Redhawks came thanks to singles by Warren Hill and Maddox Foster, a walk by Grady Proctor, and an error on a ball put in play by Chase Stephens.

 

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs got on the board in the first inning.  Ethan Bowen drove in one when Bowen singled.

 

Ionia Varsity Bulldogs scored six runs in the second inning.  The offensive onslaught by Ionia Varsity Bulldogs was led by Garrett Lee, Austin Currigan, Alex Barr, Bowen, Daniel McCoy, and  Kane Lundstrom, all knocking in runs in the inning.

 

Carter Castillo got the start for Ionia Varsity Bulldogs. Castillo went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out two.

 

Cam Cook was on the mound for Saranac Varsity Redhawks. The pitcher lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out one.  Mitch Jackson and Evan Johnson entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings and one inning respectively.

 

Bowen went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Ionia Varsity Bulldogs in hits.

 

Hill led Saranac Varsity Redhawks with two hits in two at bats.
