Girls Varsity Cross Country vs. OPEN

Game Date
Oct 15, 2022

The Ionia Girls’ Cross Country Team competed Saturday against all 39 high schools in mid-Michigan at the Greater Lansing Championships at Ledge Meadows Golf Club in Grand Ledge.  Ionia exceeded their seeding with a 22th-place finish that was a solid effort considering 3 of the 5 Bulldogs were competing in this big meet for the first time.  Personal bests were hard to come by on the hilly course under cold and windy conditions.  Senior Megan Lennemann was the leading Bulldog crossing the finish line in 20:28 which was good for 38th place out of 219 finishers.  Next in for the Bulldogs was senior Clara Deeren (22:23) in 105th place.  Rounding out the scoring for Ionia was a trio of freshmen led by Carleigh Thompson (134th) in 23:05, Hannah Luttman (185th) in a lifetime personal best of 26:30, and Angie Reyes (218th) in 36:13.

Greater Lansing was also used as a substitute CAAC White league jamboree since the Sept. 20 jamboree had to be canceled due to thunderstorms.  Scoring the meet with just their league rivals resulted in a 4th-place finish for Ionia with 92 points. Places in the league results were Lennemann (4th), Deeren (13th), Thompson (16th), Luttman (28th), and Reyes (31st).

The Bulldogs will host the final CAAC White Jamboree on Thursday.  This meet combined with the previous two will determine the final team standings as well as individual all-league accolades.
